Lamers System Care B.V. has made significant progress with fouling prevention for industrial applications. New applications are continuously being discovered, from chlorine distribution racks and pump housings to accumulation in pipelines.
While the maritime industry is becoming increasingly familiar with the term ‘Ultrasonic’, industry is only now learning about the benefits of ultrasonic fouling prevention. The geographical location of the plant influences the cooling method. Those located near the coast primarily use seawater to cool their systems. Fortunately, LSC is ready to share years of experience in preventing fouling!
Ultrasonic in Industry
Production lines that displace raw materials can leave a mineral residue on the inside of the pipeline. This mineral residue is called scaling. Scaling forms in layers, and if left untreated, the pipe diameter can be reduced to zero. During this process, production output decreases until it inevitably must be stopped to dismantle and clean the piping. Microscopic cavitation, caused by the Ultrasonic system, reduces the buildup of scale, allowing for increased flow and production output. Moreover, cleaning intervals can be extended, reducing operational costs.

Fresh water from industrial installations to drinking water systems may contain bacteria that settle on the inside of pipes to create biofilm. If untreated, this can lead to serious problems, for example: microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC). MIC causes the inner wall of the pipe to corrode and is often only noticed when it has corroded through to the outer wall. Defective pipes can lead to unforeseen repairs or even dangerous situations. Bacterial accumulation in water-displacing pipes is normal, but this must be monitored and controlled. Biofilm in drinking water systems can lead to injuries and, in the worst case, to legionella contamination which can even result in death. LSC’s core activity was based on preventing biofilm within the maritime industry. Although the properties and types of bacteria in salt water differ from fresh water, the method of ultrasonic fouling prevention works the same.
Maintenance
LSC attended their first Industry Exhibition at Maintenance Gorinchem. This confirmed the demand for sustainable solutions to prevent biofilm and reduce scale buildup in pipes and coolers. LSC looks forward to working with the new relationships established and helping them reduce operational costs and achieve cleaner pipes.
