On October 4, 2018, the biennial Innovation Expo took place in Rotterdam. The Innovation Expo, an event organized by the Dutch Government, focuses on raising awareness of primarily Dutch innovations from various sectors for a global market. The theme of Innovation Expo 2018 was therefore: “Global challenges, Dutch solutions”.
The Dutch Government wants to stimulate environmentally friendly innovations for the use of antifouling (anti-growth paint) in recreational boating. Therefore, these receive special attention during the Innovation Expo. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, HISWA Association and Water Recreation Netherlands jointly focus on innovations in the field of alternatives to biocide-containing antifouling. Lamers System Care was part of this initiative this year.
On October 5, following the Innovation Expo, an innovation theme day was organized with the subject “Biocide-free antifouling systems”. Bob Lamers from Lamers System Care was present to participate in the panel discussion on alternative antifouling. The EBA (European Boat Association), the association of European boat owners, also has a strong need for alternative antifouling solutions. The main requirements that emerged included the possibility of self-installation and a product that ensures the boat remains maintenance-free for several years.
During the Innovation Expo and theme day, it became clear that sustainable and environmentally friendly antifouling systems are experiencing tremendous growth. RIVM recently published a report discussing various antifouling systems, including antifouling based on ultrasound.
