“How can we ensure that our cooling system stays clean, instead of clogging up again shortly after each cleaning?”

The Problem
Rijkswaterstaat’s vessels operate in Dutch waters with a high level of marine fouling. Seawater is used to cool the diesel engines via an extensive system of piping and plate coolers. Rapid biological fouling in the piping system caused frequent malfunctions and recurring maintenance, often shortly after a cleaning. This highlighted the need for a structural, long-term solution.
The solution
The ultrasonic antifouling system prevents the formation of biofilm using high-frequency ultrasonic signals. This keeps the cooling system clean without the use of chemicals and significantly reduces maintenance.
