Monitoring Station – Biological Fouling – Piping

How can we keep our pipes and filters free of mussel growth without having to clean them every day?

The Problem
At an RWS monitoring station, heavy fouling caused by mussels and mineral deposits resulted in daily blockages of pipes and filters. This led to a loss of pressure, preventing the station from achieving its target measurement availability of 95%. Intensive daily cleaning and occasional chemical treatment were necessary, resulting in additional labor hours, higher maintenance costs, and operational risks.

The solution
An ultrasonic antifouling system has been installed to prevent the formation and buildup of fouling in the piping. The system keeps pipes and filters free of blockages, restoring reliable flow and enabling continuous monitoring. The cleaning frequency has been drastically reduced, chemicals are no longer needed, and the station now consistently meets its measurement targets.
